Christian Struchen

Christian Struchen is a Swiss equine veterinarian and osteopath.

With more than 30 years of experience working at the elite competitive level in horse racing, show jumping and polo, Christian Struchen has repetitively demonstrated his unique ability to comprehend horses in a different and out-of-the-box approach.

Veterinarian

After having been trained and obtaining a PhD in veterinary medicine, Christian began his career working as a horse surgeon in the veterinary hospitals of Zürich and Bern.

He then launched his independent veterinary practice in Switzerland, working with leisure horses and rapidly with some of the best show jumping riders of the world, such as Steve Guerdat, Martin Fuchs, and Ben Maher.

During 2004 and 2010, he was the official veterinarian of the Swiss national show jumping team, accompanying it all over the world.

Osteopathy

Christian has been one of the pillars of equine osteopathy worldwide. In 1995, he met Dominique Giniaux, the creator of equine osteopathy, who trained him in the discipline.

This new approach to understanding horses, focusing on finding the horse’s absolute balance in movement, quickly made osteopathy indispensable for the treatment of sport horses. This led him to become a pivotal figure for some of the best horse racing trainers, such as André Fabre, William Haggas, and Jean-Claude Rouget.

In order to transmit Giniaux’s legacy of osteopathy to future generations of veterinarians, Christian gives courses through numerous osteopathy school across Europe, and was part of the founding committee of EVSO, the European Veterinary Society for Osteopathy, which he presided during a number of years.
